Top 5 Things to do in Puerto Aventuras

Puerto Aventuras is a nautical paradise. It is one of the most important places for tourist development in the Riviera Maya. PA has the only sports marina between Cancun and Belize. And with that, you have the chance to enjoy many water sports activities in the beautiful Caribbean waters every day.

It is a private residence community on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, which is the most unique and popular place for both recreation and living along the entire coast of the Riviera Maya. The uniqueness of this place consists in the natural landscape and developed infrastructure. If you look at the map, you will notice that most of the village is natural water channels and lagoons. Thanks to this, the creators of Puerto Aventuras have made a kind of paradise for life and relaxation.

Puerto Aventuras is the ideal place for your family to vacation or live in a safe, warm and tranquil environment that only the Mexican Caribbean can offer you. PA consists of 3 main bays: Fatima, Chan Yu Yum, and Chac Hal Al in which you can do all kinds of activities such as swimming with dolphins, visiting sea lions, observing different species of birds, marine fauna, snorkelling, paddle surfing, Jet-Ski and water skiing, and many others.

And with that, my recommendations for the Top 5 Things to Do in Puerto Aventuras is very family-friendly. It is indeed a lovely experience for vacationers of all ages.

1. WALK THE MARINA

As mentioned above, much of the village is around water channels and lagoons, kind of like the Venice Canals of The Riviera Maya.

You may depart from the marina to enjoy charters or tours out to sea or simply walk the marina with your dog.

Oftentimes, you will see fishermen trying their luck along your walk.

My favorite times to walk the marina is either at dawn or dusk. The colors are stunning and the air refreshing. Don’t be afraid to take a detour as there are many unpaved paths that lead to a breathtaking sunset like above.

2. EAT AT THE MANY RESTAURANTS IN THE CENTER

The center of the village of Puerto Aventuras has many amazing restaurants with food from around the world. The atmosphere is very tranquil with a nice ambiance any time of the day.

There is Mexican cuisine, to French, Seafood, Italian, Thai and so much more!

Be sure to see our blog on Top 5 Places to Eat in Puerto Aventuras here for my best recommendations and even discounts!

Who knows? If you are really nice with your chef, you may even get an impromptu cooking lesson!

3. VISIT CENOTES

Over 66 million years ago, an asteroid over 10 kilometers in diameter struck the Yucatan Peninsula in one of the largest impact structures recorded on earth at the Chicxulub crater.

As a result of this impact over time, several hundred, even thousands of sinkholes are formed. A “cenote” is a natural sinkhole created where a cave ceiling has collapsed, a window to this spectacular world.

There are literally hundreds of cenotes within 10 kilometers of Puerto Aventuras. There are cave (covered) cenotes and open cenotes like Jardin El Eden. This cenote is my favourite place to relax, swim, nap in my hammock and enjoy a Mayan pedicure (little fishes nibble on your feet in the water)

Cenote Jardin El Eden (pictured above) is only about a 5 minute drive from Puerto Aventuras.

There is a cluster of other cenotes around Eden too like Cenote Azul (pictured above).

4. SPEND A DAY AT PA BEACH CLUB & HOTEL

If you stay in Puerto Aventuras then you must at least spend a day here.

The pool is perfect to laze around and for the kids to enjoy a dip in.

It is a really nice tranquil laid-back atmosphere with no excessive music or commotion. Just perfect.

The patio and poolside bar are a local favorite. You should find out why.

Wouldn’t you like to go for a swim? And it is also just as beautiful at night if you fancy an evening dip.

And when you eventually make it past the pool, beautiful Fatima Bay awaits you.

Fátima Bay and lagoon has one of the most beautiful reef systems in the Riviera Maya on this side of Cozumel. Vibrant corals. Many different types of fishes.

On a sunny calm morning like today, I saw thousands of fishes and schools or groups of hundreds of fishes together. You really should see it with your own eyes too.

The wide diversity of marine life adds an element of discovery and adventure to essential vacation activities, such as swimming, diving or fishing sports.

5. DIVE OR SNORKEL

And I saved the best for last… The waters here is world renown as the diver’s paradise with the MesoAmerican Barrier Reef which is only behind the Great Barrier Reef of Australia in sheer size.

The reefs around Puerto Aventuras and Akumal are absolutely stunning. Along with many diverse marine life, Akumal dives are especially famous for turtles and rays.

Regardless if you are a beginner or experienced diver, I reckon you will not want to regret being here and not explore the beautiful coral reefs. I believe the right instructor or dive master makes the world of difference in your experience and I am happy to refer my Dive Instructor and Dive Master, Bertrand to take you into the water. He is the best! *Pictured above.

*BONUS – XPUHA BEACH

You simply have to see the turquoise color waters of XpuHa.

Located only 10 minutes from Puerto Aventuras, the waters are simply magical here. There is a reef system close to shore for those who like to snorkel.

And I recommend getting a day pass at La Playa restaurant and beach club for the day to enjoy a cozy lounge chair and some amazing mariscos (seafood).
