Krabi was home to the country’s oldest history of continued human settlement since the period 25,000-35,000 B.C. “Krabi” means sword in Thai and the region was named such because the 1st governor, Jao Phraya Nakorn, was presented with a sacred sword that was unearthed from the ground here. Many dignitaries and royal families often visited Krabi as she became an integral part of the Kingdom of Siam. One of the reasons was because Krabi provided elephants for the capital city of Bangkok. Elephants have played a significant role in the history of Krabi, as they were used as a symbol of the kingdom’s power and prestige. Many beautiful elephants roamed the lands of Krabi.
